Kapotasana is the deepest backbend in the Ashtanga Yoga second series, set up as a gateway posture to test strength and flexibility. I remember once holding it for more than 50 breaths during a guided second series class with my teacher—it nearly killed us all! Even if you’re naturally flexible, kapotasana is not to be taken lightly because practicing it every day will change your body, open your heart and stretch your mind.
